I have sort of a complicated question about computer technology?
Okay….I have a neighbor who has wireless internet access & another neighbor who just recently moved across the road who is accessing the internet via the first neighbors wireless without the first neighbors consent.
I understand its not illegal but its still wrong. My question is what can the first neighbor do to stop the second neighbor from doing this ?

They can encrypt there wireless network, it’s done in the router depending on there router would depend how they would go about this.

In many cases there is built-in protection in the equipment. Probably your first neighbor can set password for his wireless equipment

The fastest way is to encrypt rge wireless side of the router using 64- or 128bit encryption. This has to be done using a pc physically connected to the router. He will then have to enter the key into each wireless device he wants to have access with (laptop, iPod, etc.).

The first person’s wireless router can and should be set up to be encrypter and password protected. You can connect to the router through a browser, usually by entering the IP address of the router (often, but check your user’s manual). Once there, the UI will differ. Do a google on the internet to find specific instructions on how to password protect your wireless network with your router.
BTW, even if you didn’t know a specific person doing this, and if it weren’t rude, this is a major security issue. They should do this on general principle. In fact, I think it’s stupid that router companies don’t have this as the default.

On the owners computer, open up the program for the settings of the network, and there should be something about encryption. Choose any of the types available based on what you want, and set a password. Then, only people who know that password, can go on your network, and access the internet through your network.
