Ofcorse the software is in demand. U can chose to be in frontend or in the backend. Frontend includes programming languages like C, C++, Visual basic.
Backend includes .NET and JAVA.
In todays compititive world u shold be an allrounder. So knowledge in hardware will also help u in geting job.

You have to be aware that computer field is becoming highly populated. Options in hardware are not too many and indeed the best share is in networking. However too many are going for networking.
Software has better varieties and opportunities; Operating systems: you can target the new and not commonly used systems. Linux is a very promising OS, in future I presume it will overtake Microsoft. Unix has very advanced applications. Solarix and others also have their market but are limited in chances.
Programming is also heavily inhibited, .net frame will soon be acquired by many so if you still have time to graduate you will not have advantage by then. Same applies to Java. The new Microsoft track of .net for mobile programming and Microsoft mobile handset OS is however a promising zone.
Needed to mention security! a evry exciting and in-demand field; specially if you can speciallize in cellular (mobile) user security. This is indeed the most thirving field for few years to come.
In database, oracle is certainly best and the need is ever growing and you have varieties of options. Internet protocol for mobile IP v6 is another interesting area and it will give you opportunities with Cellular companies. If you plan to advance your carrier with masters degree you should opt for Personal Mobile and Satellite communication.
Evidently anything that can bring you near to Cellular industry will guarantee you a lot of opportunities as it is the most thriving now a days.
