The most recent things are multi-core processors. What used to have to sit in air-conditioned rooms, and in huge servers now sit in small laptops. Also, quad-core, and oct-core (8) will be comming out in the next few years.

Another notable product is the blu-ray disk. By using a different colored laser they are able to fit much more onto a single disk, and they are much more scratch resistant. Now, on a DVD, it can hold 4.7gb, on a blu-ray it can hold up to 25gb. That is amazing! They are even working on a disk that can hold up to 200gb.

Hard drives also gained some ground going from IDE to SATA, and SATA II allowing for much faster rate of file management.
