I suppose it’s much easier to make a CG movie. The good old movies were hand drawn after all, they must have taken a very long time and a lot of people to finish. With CG, you just tell the computer what to do.

It’s not easier to MAKE a CG animated movie today but it is certainly easier to CONTROL it. The great animations — even as late as the Triplets of Belleville in 2003 were mostly done in studios where the directors could go off and do whatever they wished. The more a movie costs the more the studio has a say in what goes into it. Computers are electrical machines which require power maintenance and repair, and this puts control firmly in the hands of the studios and their backers — who won’t LOOK at 2D any more unless it a. already has an audience and b. has a likely distributor who could take audience share away from them.
