I’m glad computer gaming is finally coming back with some real games again. Starcraft two is a premiere example. It was sold out the day it came out, and is a huge online playing forum. I have always been a computer nerd, and had to make the gradual change to Console Style Gaming. I’ve played first person shooter games, and I tended to loose interest. I’ll play Force Unleashed, Force Unleashed II (Heaven Exits, it’s this game!), Castlevania, Dragon Age and all the games that once upon a time were made for the Computer Gaming World. So I became a Console Gamer… but you don’t take your console with you! Stuck on a plane or bored on your train ride to work you tend to miss the old pastime of computer gaming.
Starcraft 2 broke the mold again with an in-depth storyline, and awe inspiring graphical engine. Dust off your laptops cuz there not just work engines anymore, they are serious portals of pure time wasting platforms of pure entertainment. Whether its free for all Player verses Player or Campaign Style Man vs A.I. Starcraft single handedly brought back the computer gaming world. And showed investors that there are a ton of computer gamers out there and they’re all ready to buy hot titles when the designers at Activision and Blizzard step up and produce them.
So in the distance over and beyond the horizon a beautiful game is to be released, foretold for almost a decade and pushed back to the drawing board more than once… the infamous rein of “Duke Nuke ‘Em” is about to begin again. The Character was a spin off of the historic Doom Game as a first person shooter. The creator of the Duke Nuke ‘Em wanted a combination of Ash (Bruce Campbell’s Evil Dead and Army of Darkness Character) and Arnold Schwarzenegger giving the Duke the perfect blend of Sarcasm and Power. So in turn, I think I’m going to have reclaim the first person shooter hat, and celebrate with the comeback of great Computer Gaming!
Starcraft restarted the trend, Duke Nuke ‘Em keeping excitement high, I think it’s safe to say. Computer Gaming is Back!
Sincerely Yours,
~Gadarious

Once upon a time, parents would often lecture us on our computer usage. Some common naggings would include the waste of electricity, the waste of time, and the waste of brain cells. But did you know that researches have found that playing games can actually boost brain activity, hand-eye coordination, and personal spiritual growth?

Some games are made to be educational and inspirational, where you can get both creative ideas and learn something in the meantime. Computer games can be natural teachers, teaching us about facts of life without even us consciously knowing it. Because the games we stick to tend to be interesting, we pick up bits and pieces of what we see, hear, and overall experience and instill them in our daily lives.
Computer games can also be a good practice for hand-eye coordination. Some games have surprise or unpredictable elements like sports games, where you will need to watch out for and quickly response with the move of your mouse or keys. It may sound like very little movements, but frequent practice, coordinating your eyes and hands to initiate a response will come naturally to you.
It may sound surprising, but these types of games can actually bring you spiritual growth, if you enjoy the games you play. After facing much stresses in our daily lives, we will need to have some form of de-stress. Computer games are one where you will not need to look high and low for if you look in the right place. If you walk into the modern classroom, you will be hard pressed to find one that is not equipped with at least one computer, if not more. The computer is becoming a permanent fixture in the classroom, and some schools are even giving students laptops to use for school purposes. This is not surprising considering how computer driven our society is, but many parents and grandparents are surprised when they learn that computer games are being used in the classroom.
What purpose do computer games in the classroom serve? Are they simply there to fill time in place of board games or outdoor playing, or do they serve an educational purpose? While games are often used to fill those times when students need something entertaining to do, they do serve a very important purpose.
Children enjoy using the computer. In fact, long before most kids have thought about school they have been on a computer. Video games, both computerized and on the television, are also extremely popular with children. Children will play computer games, so why not use them to reinforce educational material while they play?
Computer games in the classroom do not replace the teacher’s role. They are used for practice and drill in most situations. Even though some subjects can be taught exclusively on the computer, such as typing, other subjects can be practiced and reinforced by playing computer games. Take spelling as an example. When students need to practice their spelling words, a simple computer game like hangman could be used to help them practice in a fun, relaxed manner.
Educational software can be used in the home as well as the school. You know that your kids love to play on the computer. Imagine giving them a game to play that is fun while at the same time works to strengthen their math skills. Both you and your children’s teacher will approve of that type of screen time!
Educational computer games can also help strengthen the thinking skills of students. Games that ask students to solve mysteries are a great way to develop critical thinking skills in a fun, supportive way. These types of games are the ones that kids can play and learn without realizing that they are learning something!
When using computer games in the classroom, it is important to monitor what your students are doing. For example, you may find that a student always plays the basic math game that he knows he can win. He doesn’t really need to practice in spelling, so you might encourage him to embark on a history mystery game instead. Whenever possible, computer games should be used to work on skills that a student needs to strengthen.
As with any computer use, playing computer games must be balanced with other learning. Most children would be willing to play games all day long. This, of course, is not a good way to educate students. On the other hand, never allowing a student to play on the computer could be harming him. He will be missing out on valuable practice time and a fun way to approach learning. The balance should allow students to play, while at the same time providing traditional instruction throughout the school day.
So the next time you walk into your child’s school and see her on the computer, don’t worry. She is being entertained, challenged and learning at the same time! Computer games play a vital role in a well-balanced classroom, so take some time to thank your teacher for allowing your kids some time to play!

As the video game industry continues to grow in popularity (home consoles), there are still video games being produced and sold for the personal computer and the Macintosh computer. These video games were popular prior to the development of home consoles such as PlayStation, Nintendo, Sega and Xbox. Video games released for the home computer and laptops include genres such as war simulation, cards, sports simulations and puzzles. Some of the most popular war simulation games have been plane simulation games because of the ability to purchase a joystick and actually fly the plane. Another popular genre of simulation games for the home computer and laptop is that of driving simulation games.
Computer video games can be purchased at electronic stores, on the Internet, or played for free on gaming websites. They can be downloaded or uploaded, depending on the nature of the game, and can be saved directly to the computer or to a digital card or external hard drive. It all depends on the nature of the game and the preferences of the gamer. Some of the most popular video games for the personal computer have also been released for home console systems like PlayStation or Xbox and vice versa. People can bring their laptop everywhere they go and sometimes they want to bring their video games with them. So, if they like a certain game that they play on their home console, they can purchase that game’s version for their computer.
Popular console games that can also be played on the computer include Call of Duty, Madden NFL, The Sims, Star Wars, Halo, MLB Front Office Manager, Brothers in Arms, NHL 09 and many more. When you purchase video games for your computer they do not come with all the accessories needed to play them. Most video games can be played with the click of a mouse and by using a handful of keys on the computer’s keyboard. But, certain games such as Flight Simulator will require the use of a joystick to effectively play the game. The joystick does not come with the game, which means you will have to purchase it separately.
There is a downside to playing video games on your computer. If the game is one where you play individual sporting events, advance to different levels, or unlock different items then you will need to save the game’s data or lose your place in the game. This might turn into a problem if you wind up having technical problems with your computer. There will be no problem with saving the game to your computer’s hard drive but if the computer becomes infected with a virus or other harmful item then your game’s data might be in jeopardy. Or, if the game freezes during game play then you might never be able to play that game again unless you reinstall it onto your system. This means that you will lose your data and have to start all over again, which can be extremely frustrating, especially if you have put a ton of time into the game. Do not forget though that these same problems can arise from playing video games on home consoles.
